The foundation of Nandgaon Shiksha Mandal was laid on 2nd May 1956 through the remarkable and collective efforts of social reformers, businessmen, industrialists, and eminent educationists of Rajnandgaon. The visionary aspiration of Mahant Raja Digvijay Das was to establish Rajnandgaon as a prominent center of education in the then Central Provinces. To transform this noble vision into reality, Pandit Kishorilal Shukla, widely regarded as the architect of Rajnandgaon district, took the initiative to establish Nandgaon Shiksha Mandal.
As its first major educational initiative, Nandgaon Shiksha Mandal established Digvijay College on 13th July 1957. In ahistoric gesture of dedication towards education, Mahant Raja Digvijay Das and Rajmata jointly donated their entire palace, a rich and valuable library, and a substantial amount of ₹67,000 to the institution. Over time, Digvijay College emerged as one of the leading educational institutions of the state and was eventually taken over by the Government on 26th January 1973.
Continuing its commitment to higher education, Nandgaon Shiksha Mandal made a significant contribution in the field of legal education by establishing a Law College in July 1967 within the campus of Digvijay College. Initially, the classes of the Law College were conducted within the Digvijay College premises. Subsequently, an independent building for the Law College was constructed between the State School and the District Cooperative Bank.
In the year 1995, academic activities of the Law College were shifted to the newly constructed building, and the institution was renamed Pt. Kishorilal Shukla Law College in honour of Pandit Kishorilal Shukla, the distinguished architect of Rajnandgaon district.
Today, under the able guidance of Nandgaon ShikshaMandal, Pt. Kishorilal Shukla Law College continues to uphold its legacyas one of the premier institutions imparting legal education, earning adistinct identity for academic excellence and professional development.
Over the years, Nandgaon Shiksha Mandal hasconsistently introduced new dimensions in the field of education. In thisdirection, a significant initiative was undertaken in agricultural educationwith the establishment of an Agriculture College at Ambagarh Chowki in July2009. Later, the institution was renamed in memory of the late Smt.Sharda Ji.
The college continued to contribute to agricultural education successfully until the year 2024. However, due to changes in government policies and the establishment of several government agricultural colleges in the same region, adequate student enrolment could not be sustained. Consequently, the functioning of the institution was adversely affected, ultimately leading to its closure.
Thereafter, in the year 2024, with the objective of promoting modern and quality school education, Nandgaon Shiksha Mandal established the NSM English Medium School, which is presently providing students with an excellent academic environment and holistic educational opportunities.
